“One of the most significant aspects of this app [Build A Word Express - Practice spelling...] that I like is that there is an option to choose the kind of word list you would like the children to work on. There are lists for all of the following and more: beginning blend sounds, double consonants, short vowels, long vowels, Dolch word lists for grades preprimer to third and 1-3 letter word lists all the way to 6+ letter word lists. This feature really allows for differentiation within one classroom while it also enables teachers to use this app across the grades as well. ” iPad Adventures at Lower School blog at http://sfsipads.blogspot.com/2012/08/build-word.html

According to this academy “children who read as
few as six books over the summer maintain the level of reading skills they achieved during the preceding school year”. The parents were suggested a reading list for students entering Junior Kindergarten through First Grade. This list contains one of @Reks’s apps on a short list of apps! on http://www.pappasappar.se. Here is what the Swedish reviewer had to say about the app:
Man får färdiga svarsalternativ.
Read more …

“On the surface this app seems basic, however it cleverly helps preschool and kindergarten aged children learn numbers, letters and
phonics through a card matching game. It’s simple, but effective. Between matching games, there is cute mini-
game, which you can also turn off. There are 3 levels of matching games – 6 cards, 12 cards and 18 cards, and 4 variations of game; upper case letters, lower case letters, mixed case letters, numbers 1-20. Read more …
“This is a cute and colorful app that is perfect for preschool and kindergarten age children. It only has simple ABAB type patterns, which are perfect for beginners. My only complaint is that there is no audio that reads out the patterns.”
Caboose Learn to Recognize and Complete Patterns has been updated to version 2.0 with some amazing features. It would be interesting to hear what this author would have to say about it. The latest version was shaped according to ideas shared with us by reviewers and educators worldwide.
