@Reks spelling apps were designed following Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)
Approach. Namely, the following spelling apps were planned to be a part of Presentation, Practice and Production language teaching methodology: @Reks Spelling Apps

  1. Build A Word – Easy Spelling – Learn to Spell Sight Words, Long Vowel and Short Vowel Words
  2. Build A Word – Easy Spelling with Phonics
  3. Phonics Free
  4. Build A Word Express – Practice spelling and learn letter sounds and names
  5. Classroom Spelling

Eight different categories were taken into account to review the spelling apps. Thus, special attention was put on the fact whether the app includes:

  1. Pre-loaded spelling lists (a number of spelling lists already created in the app with their full narrations)
  2. Custom spelling lists (option for a user to create his own spelling lists)
  3. Option to share custom made spelling lists with other iPads / iPhones / iPod Touches
  4. Students’ progress report (Apps record individual student’s progress)
  5. Letter Narration focusing on letter names or letter sounds (phonics)
  6. Customization for special needs students
  7. FREE or Paid download
  8. In-App purchase

Presentation – Practice – Production, or PPP, is divided into three phases, moving from tight teacher control towards greater learner freedom. Practically the method relies on the progression from presentation, through controlled practice, to free production. Having this in mind @Reks spelling apps were given three main parts Learn, Practice and Quiz. In addition to Practice section, GAMES section was introduced. Games section includes 5 different educational practice games:

1. Memory Game
2. Bridge Crossing
3. River Crossing
4. Word Search
5. Spin-the-Wheel
